Playing Bingo – Online Vs. Real Bingo Halls

Bingo is a modern version of the game of “Beano”. Beano was so named, because in the game, players were required to cover the numbers appearing on their cards with beans. In earlier days, people who wanted to have fun and at the same time donate money for a worthy cause played bingo primarily in churches and other charities. Today, people are attracted to online bingo mainly due to the cash prizes and rewards such as mobile phones, DVD players and home theater systems, on offer. Nowadays, UK Bingo is often played with cards that are marked with fluorescent ink, allowing players to see the numbers even while playing in dark halls. Bingo is an easy game and can be played almost anywhere; be it your home, hall, or park depending on the number of people participating in a game. With the advent of the Internet, it has also become possible for Bingo lovers to play online games and take part in online Bingo tournaments. Because of the influence of online gambling, the game of bingo has become a worldwide phenomenon among people of all ages and occupations. Bingo’s popularity is fast gaining prominence over many other traditional casino games with the launch of numerous user-friendly online bingo websites.

Game Basics And Rules

Bingo has a few basic rules that are applicable to games played in land-based bingo halls as well as online games that are played in virtual bingo rooms. In land-based games, the numbers are physically drawn by an attendant or host who calls out the number over a microphone. The players just need to keep marking off the drawn numbers until they win. In online bingo game, the numbers are generated randomly by a software program. In many online bingo sites, players do not even have to click on the drawn numbers, as the software automatically marks the numbers when they are generated. As soon as the markings on the virtual bingo card makes a certain pattern required for winning, the player can press on the “bingo” tab on the web page. The winning criteria may vary depending on the site, which may have different rules and conditions.

ngo Cards And Virtual Bingo Cards

Bingo is completely based on chance and does not require any prior knowledge or special skills. Players just need to keep marking the numbers on the bingo cards until they win. Bingo cards used in both land based games as well as online games have a 5 x 5 grid pattern with different numbers (1 to 75) printed on it at random. The columns of bingo cards are marked with the letters ‘B’, ‘I’, ‘N’, ‘G’, and ‘O’ from left to right. The first column contains five random numbers between 1 and 15, the second column has numbers from 16 to 30, the third column has numbers from 31 to 45, the fourth column has numbers from 46 to 60, and the fifth column has numbers from 61 to 75. Although a number can appear only once on a bingo card, the number of combinations that are possible for the bingo cards is limitless.

In general, land-based bingo cards come in large booklets along with the calling number jokes and a number board. A few vendors replenish the bingo card supply every few months for a nominal fee or at times at no extra cost. These arrangements are created for bingo halls that hold an average of four to five games per day and cater to a large audience. However, for household games and charity events, such arrangements are not necessary. Cards for such games can be downloaded and printed off the Internet through online bingo portals and bingo equipment websites. Many websites have the provision of free printable bingo cards. All that users have to do is log on to the site, follow instructions, download and print or print while still online. Many online portals provide this facility at a price, but are prepared to give customers some downloads for a free trial.

Winning Criteria And Patterns

In most variations of land-based games, a player is declared a winner when the markings on the card make a certain pattern, which may be five continuous markings; be it diagonally or in any one of the five rows or columns. A ‘full house’ is also a common winning criterion wherein the winner needs to have all the numbers marked on his/her bingo card. There is no standard winning criteria and a game organizer can define any number of winning criteria based on his/her imagination. The winning criterion may require players to have one marking in every row, one marking in every column, complete two rows, complete two columns, or any other possible combination. In land-based games, when a player fulfills the required winning criteria, he/she just needs to shout out the word “bingo” and claim his prize. This is necessary since there is only one prize for fulfilling one wining criteria and chances are that more than one player might have fulfilled the winning criteria.

Basic Dog Training

You look at Fido and see two things

- The little creature you love and opened your home and heart to

- Then there’s the dopey demon running rings around you. He has already swallowed the wifes manolos and you swear he has his eye on your palm pilot! No doubt about it, something has to be done.

The thing is, people are not born well behaved and polite, its behaviour that we were TAUGHT. In the absence of such training, people learn their social skills on their own – sometimes with less than desirable and even disastrous results.

It is exactly like this with dogs, but made worse by the fact they naturally have a completely different social structure. If we sniffed someones backside to find out about them, we would get smacked or maybe arrested for harassment. Equally, a dog cant just ask his neighbour Butch if he likes chasing cars or collecting bones. Dogs and humans learn to live side by side with a little training. We learn to understand each other as best we can. We teach them what is acceptable and reap the rewards that come with a well behaved and happy pooch.

Sit boy sit!

It all starts with the bare basics. You have to walk before you can run! In the beginning, the word sit is the magical word that solves many a canine problem. Many dog trainers agree that treat training is one of the best methods of training there is.

So how do you get that furry butt to hit the floor on command? Well, here is the story of Mack:

Mack was very excitable for such a small dog, he used to nose dive on visitors and do the doggie trampoline every time you did anything. It became a real problem when he darted after other dogs, jumped all over complete strangers and ruined peoples flower beds. If he had been a Labrador people, would have been terrified. So I took him aside and waggled a treat at him. I held it above his head until his bottom hit the floor and I immediately said sit. GOOD BOY! and gave him the treat. When he started to associate the command with the action, I slowly replaced treats with praise, giving him the odd treat to reinforce the good behaviour. He sits when told now (he never knows when a treat will be forthcoming either!) and guests are not terrified of sitting on the couch for fear of being dog-mugged.

Lie down boy!

Right, we have sit in the bag, what about lie down?
Homer is your average big dog, a boisterous nutter with unknown parentage. The main problem with him was his size. We travel a lot and he bounced around the car excitedly, anything he saw out the window could potentially send him into frenzy. He just loved the car – dividers, straps and restraints never really worked for him, he needed to calm down. He would sit on command but he was still very excitable from a sitting position. Then we realised bingo! the only time he is really calm is when he is lying down! We used the treat training method, getting him to sit then pulling the treat from him across the floor, forcing him to lie down, giving him the command and praise. Over time he got used to doing this in the car without treats. I can drive without fear of him causing a crash now. Its like freedom for us and he seems happy as I am calmer too.

Stay!

Once he is down, its getting him to stay that is the prize.
Zac was a terrible abuser of his training! He figured out that I gave him a treat as soon as he followed my command, so he felt he need not bother staying. He would take his treat and his praise and then wandered off to do whatever it is he did. So I had to trick the trickster. I started giving him treats to stay and I would give the command. If he complied, I would give him a treat and praise straight away. If he started to get up I would repeat this, we would keep this up for a few minutes each day, gradually increasing the times. Then I started to give praise without the treats. He seems to live in hope of these odd reinforcement treats.

Many a dog can be coaxed with a treat; the key is to get them to link the command with the action. The treat is just a prize. Gradually you replace the treat with praise, giving the odd treat to reinforce this good behaviour.

Top tips:

- Training means consistency; dont give in to puppy dog eyes or a persistent dog. They learn patience and persistence pays off.

- Remember, nearly all behaviour problems are perfectly normal canine behaviour. You need to redirect their natural behaviour to a suitable outlet.

- A dog ages approx 7 years for every 1 human year so their behaviour is ever changing, this is why dog training is life long.

- Start training in an area with few visual and sound distractions, gradually introducing distractions to help pooch adjust.

- Dogs bore easily so keeping training to 15-20 minutes a day and/or incorporating it into your daily routine will help you both stay sane! Sit while you cook, heel while you talk on the phone.

- We often let good behaviour go un-rewarded and go bananas when pooch misbehaves. Dogs love attention even if it is negative. Praising good behaviour, even if he sits quietly chewing on his own toy, will help pooch understand that good behaviour is more rewarding.

- Following on from the last point, most dogs are so used to NO stop that! and bad dog! that it becomes background noise, reprimands cease to have meaning. Try to find a balance between reprimands and praise.

- Expecting your dog to be restrained and well behaved when away from the home will not work if he is allowed to run free of rules when he is at home.

- Although old dogs can indeed learn new tricks, the earlier a dog learns the better. An older dog has to unlearn habits; a pup has more or less got a nice clean slate.

- Trainers generally agree, there is no point in reprimanding a dog unless you catch him in the act. Otherwise he will not be able to associate the punishment with his bad behaviour.

How to Play Bingo on the Internet

Bingo has long been played in community centers and churches across the world but the internet has changed the world of bingo just as it has changed so many other activities. Now anyone can play bingo on the internet. To find online bingo sites you simply have to do an internet search. There are many to choose from and most will have instructions on how to play online.

The number of people playing bingo on the internet has surged over the past few years. You can opt to play on free sites or low cost sites, however if you want a premium service you can also pay to play. Most people choose free sites to enjoy their game of online bingo. These sites are especially beneficial if you wish to play bingo online but are new to the game and need to learn how to play. Once you have become a confident player you can try out other sites and look for the best online environment to play bingo.

Most people who play bingo on the internet are women. Surprisingly, the demographic of bingo players has changed with this new way of playing. In the past, bingo was largely an activity of the elderly, however a number of surveys of online bingo sites indicate that most online bingo players are younger, internet savvy players. These people were found to most often play from home and most play daily. This is not surprising since you can relax with online bingo at your own convenience. Given the busyness of modern life and the often long working hours people are committed to, the internet has become a haven for relaxation which might otherwise not exist.

Bingo is easy to play from home because you can choose an auto play option which allows the cards to play for you. However, you can still interact with other people on many bingo sites because they offer an online chat option. This is designed to create some of the same atmosphere as the original bingo halls. In fact, a lot of online bingo sites have discovered to their detriment that not having online chats is a serious disadvantage and as a result a number of them have failed. Players have clearly expressed a desire for a sense of community when they play bingo on the internet. Given that loneliness is a growing social problem with people increasingly feeling disconnected from one another, online bingo sites with chat facilities can provide an effective and enjoyable way for people to connect with one another.

Many traditional bingo halls are also offering bingo on the internet as well as at their normal venues. As demand for online bingo increases there are increasing opportunities to generate profit from bingo. There is a growing market of bingo players and alongside that market is a growing number of businesses seeking to appeal to the various needs of that niche.

So, whether or not you are an experienced bingo player, why not jump into the world of online bingo and get your feet wet? You may well find the experience wonderfully refreshing.

Raising Bilingual Children: 10 Tips for Boosting the Minority Language

Your toddler may think that he or shes a complete superhero — and when it comes to language acquisition, its actually true! In particular, compared to adult language learners. Lena Sandvik in Boston says Im amazed that my 15 and 11 year olds have grown up to be completely bilingual. My accent and those silly, grammatical errors still havent disappeared, even after 15 years in the country. As easy as acquiring multiple languages is for small children, the single most important factor in language learning is the quantity of spoken language addressed to the child. So, if you worry that you arent providing enough, here are a few tricks to boost your superheros inherent powers.
<ol

  • Other kids: Join (or start) a playgroup for the second language. Children of all ages will learn from each other; there simply are no better language teachers than other kids. An added bonus will be that you will connect with other parents of bilingual

    children.

  • Books: Of course you know how vital those precious one-on-one moments are, but remember that they can be infused with language learning also. Books are the most effective tool for teaching language, and so I advise all parents: Start reading at birth and never stop! A good way to add to reading time (and make it really personal) is to create a dialogue, encouraging your child’s comments, responses, and elaborations. Talk about what the characters are like and what they might be doing next.
  • The right stuff: From books, add video, television and games. There are a multitude of aides towards fluency. In particular, games that use rhyming will make the most of language memory, but I Spy, Bingo and Memory with picture cards will also playfully build vocabulary.
  • Sing and dance: Children absolutely love music, but don’t rely solely on recorded music; your own singing, even if it is off-key, will still serve to unite melody and words for your child more surely than any professional recording ever could. Melody is also a fantastic memory aid. Think about how much easier children learn their ABCs when they sing them, compared to just reciting them. And, the combination of music with movement and gestures will enliven it all — as well as provide a nice outlet for squirmy toddlers.
  • Tap into their interests: Whatever your childs enthusiasms may be — whether a love of soccer, dance, or horses — make an effort to involve these passions in the minority language. My 3-year old son is a really big Bob de Bouwer (Bob the Builder) fan, says Martijn Fredriks. So now we always watch it in Dutch, and hes even started speaking in Dutch when he plays with the Bob the Builder toys.
  • Be creative: The trick is to give the child lots to talk about, so draw out that conversation! Encourage them to make up their own stories, play dress-up and pretend in the second language. Even painting, working with sidewalk chalk, or molding clay usually creates more vocabulary than art! Older children may enjoy calling or using a webcam for calls overseas (one such free service is

    Skype).

  • Outside the box: Isabella Vellaccio, a mother in Washington DC, who reached beyond the obvious says, I wanted my son to hear Italian from someone else than just me, and the playgroups were all during my working hours. Isabella decided to attend the church coffee after the Italian mass on Sundays. The older Italian parishioners were thrilled to see him learn Italian. Needless to say, with that much attention, and Italian cookies, he loved it.
  • Baby sitter: Find a college student who speaks the language, or for something more consistent, try a nanny or an au-pair.
  • Visits: The ultimate language boost is to visit the country where it is spoken. Total immersion for a couple of weeks has an amazing effect. And visits from friends or family also provide a valuable boost.
  • Enthusiasm: While the quantity of spoken language is the most important factor in learning a language, the second most vital ingredient is the amount of positive feedback the child hears. Early on, when a child is struggling to get those first syllables out, resist the urge to correctit can actually inhibit language skills.
  • There is a myriad of ways to ensure that foreign language time is quality time, but like any other aspect of parenting: trust your judgment, employ your imagination, and listen very, very well.

Marketing Your Creative Business 10 Simple Tactics

If you’re like many creatives out there, at one point or another, you’ve probably thought something along these lines “Gee, my work is a lot better than Joe Blow, Inc., yet it seems they’re always packed up with projects and I’m dying over here.”

The truth be told, simply having a lot of talent isn’t enough to keep a business afloat. You might be the best shooter, designer or writer to come along in years, but if nobody knows about you the phone’s not going to ring. Odds are, what separates your business from one like Joe Blow, Inc. is well thought-out marketing.

It’s important to note that marketing isn’t sales. Lots of folks seem to get them confused. Marketing is about warming relationships up for the sales effort. It’s about communicating your story, your value and what makes you different. Sales is about getting with the prospect and closing the deal. That’s the short version, anyway.

Here are a few tips to get your marketing plan moving.

    1. Do a SWOT Analysis

Sounding a bit technical? Nah. A SWOT Analysis is nothing more than writing down your strengths – what you’re good at, what assets you have and such. Next comes your weakness – stuff you stink at, lack of dough, lousy local economy, etc. “O” is for opportunities – things that you can use to your advantage like a new service offering, partnering with other complementary services, a new market niche, etc. Finally, what are the things that threaten your business? This might be Joe Blow, Inc. pumping up their marketing efforts, undercapitalization

Putting some time into preparing a rigorously honest SWOT Analysis can help give you a crystal clear picture of where you’re at and what needs to be done.

    2. Set realistic goals and write them down

Without a goal or set of goals, you can’t gauge your business and you’ll most likely find yourself floundering, getting nowhere fast. Where do you want to be? How much money would you like to earn? How many new clients and how much revenue must you generate to get there?

The trick with goals is making them realistic. Setting a goal to make a million bucks next month probably isn’t going to happen. Gaining three new clients next month just might. By setting small, reachable goals, you’ll feel like you’re making progress. That’s often enough to get you fired up to do more. Each small goal leads to larger ones. The next thing you know, you’re business is solid and growing.

It’s important to write your goals down. It helps to focus them. I also recommend taping them to your monitor or wall someplace where you can see them all the time. It will help to keep you on track.

    3. Create plans for action

Just setting goals isn’t worth a hill of beans if you don’t make plans to reach them. Take your first goal and break it up into those steps needed to attain it.

For instance, let’s take the example above of gaining three new clients next month. To reach that goal, first you’ll need to identify qualified prospects. Where will you find them? Maybe the phone book, a chamber membership list, hitting the reference books at the library and searching on the web. How will you qualify them? Do they buy the kind of stuff you’re selling? Can they pay for it?

Qualifying your prospects is important. It will save you lots of time by avoiding chasing after ones that aren’t a good fit for your business.

    4. Be consistent

This is often one of the biggest problem areas. What typically happens is you do a few marketing activities, you get busy and then you stop marketing. When the work’s all done, you’re scrambling again to find more gigs. You may have heard this referred to as “feast or famine syndrome.”

The most important time to aggressively market your practice is when you’re the busiest. It helps to insure you stay that way. That means devoting a certain amount of time each day, or at least each week, to marketing and promoting your practice.

For instance, each morning go through a few business forums and make some helpful posts. Or maybe set aside an hour to make some phone calls or emails to check in with a few existing clients and prospects you’ve been wooing. Sure, it might be tough to get started, but after a while it becomes a habit.

It’s a good idea to translate your planning onto a marketing calendar. I set mine up so it alerts me when I need to do something. You can find lots of calendar and contact manager options out there. Leave nothing to chance. Odds are you’ll forget. After you put your planning together, move it to the calendar noting daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual activities.

    5. Create multiple points of contact

Marketing is sort of synergistic. Several tasks work together to create an effect that’s greater than the sum individual parts. Sending out a bunch of postcards once isn’t as effective as sending the postcards, making follow up calls, whipping up some press releases for relevant media and joining (and getting involved in) a trade organization that matches your target market.

    6. Specialize

Yeah, yeah … I know. Specialization freaks you out because you don’t want to be pigeonholed and lose potential gigs. Guess what? Too late. Your clients have already put you in a little box stamped, “Print designer,” “Web guy,” or “Executive Portrait Photographer.” Why not use that to your advantage?

You simply can’t be all things to all people, nor should you try. It’s better to be a master at one or two things than utterly mediocre at several. Beyond that, telling a client you can do everything is likely to put up a red flag in their mind. “How the heck can they do all that and be good at it?”

    7. Define what business you’re really in

You might think of yourself as a graphic designer or writer, but is that what you’re really selling? Odds are what you’re really selling is a solution to a problem a way for your client to enter a new market, generate more inquiries, etc. Design or writing is the way that solution is expressed. Maybe you do web programming. Are you selling code? Or are you selling a better way for your client and their customers to hook up via the net?

The point here is to think about what value you bring to the table. What’s your offer? Defining and clearly communicating that message will help to separate you from the pack.

    8. Be descriptive about what you do

When somebody asks you what you do, what’s your answer? “I’m a graphic designer,” or “I’m a photographer,” are typical. You can do better and help to differentiate yourself from every other designer, shooter or writer out there.

The thing is, prospects want to know what’s in it for them. I usually say something like, “I help small businesses and communicate better with their audience.” Whoever I’m talking to will usually responds with, “Really? So, how do you do that?” Bingo! I’m in. Now I can engage the person in a conversation about the value of my graphic design and marketing services.

    9. Do a survey

This is an easy way to keep in touch with your current and past clients and maybe generate some testimonials to boot. Whip up some multiple choice questions about their views on your business. For example, here are some from the survey I do:

I try to add in a bit of humor and I also include an instant lottery ticket in with the survey. I’ve had a couple of clients win some dough which is always good for the relationship. Clients either fax them back or mail them in the self-addressed, stamped envelope I provide.

Survey results can be used as marketing ammo in the form of testimonials. Be sure to call the client first to ask if you can use the their comments. You can usually pick up a few more during that conversation.

Results can also be used to give credence to your services. Things like, “9 out of 10 Tortorella Design clients believe working with Neil is more fun than going to the dentist.” You get the idea.

    10. Become a resource for your clients

Becoming a resource means keeping a lookout for things that will help your clients and prospects do their job better and/or make them look good to their boss. Come across an online article about best practices in one of your client’s industries? Shoot them off a link. Perhaps you read an article that would be helpful. Tear it out of the magazine and mail it to them. Maybe one of your clients could benefit from the product or service another one of your clients offers. Hook them up.

In the end, marketing is all about having a well-thought out plan and being consistent with your message and implementation. Your marketing doesn’t need to dig deep into your pockets, but it does require creatively, savvy and a solid way to differentiate you from everybody else out there. It also requires you to be utterly honest with yourself in where you’re at and where you can realistically be in a few months and a few years.

They can be found at various sites, sometimes for a price and at some sites one can find free printable baby shower games.

AdSense Showing the Wrong Ads? A Trick to Make Sense of AdSense

Lets say that you put up a web page that, for example, talks about baseball and the latest hitting techniques. Then you place your Google AdSense code on the page and when you refresh the page you get advertisements for Lebanese Nomads that collect baseballs? Ok, maybe your ads arent that irrelevant, but you get the point.

If you run a blog or a website that does not necessarily concentrate on one particular topic but a multitude of topics then you have probably had some difficulty getting Google to display the proper ads for your page. Well, I have developed a little trick. I dont know if anyone else uses this trick, I havent checked, but if you dont then you might benefit from it.

On a particular site of mine I was having this exact problem with one of my pages, so here is what I did. I opened Adobe Photoshop (or any image editing program) and I created an image that was 1 pixel high and 1 pixel wide. Then I filled the canvas with the exact same color as the background of the web page I was having difficulty with. I then saved that image as spacer.gif, uploaded to my server and inserted it into my web page near the top but off to the side where no one would be clicking their mouse.

Then, and here comes the important part, I surfed around the internet for some text, any text that was keyword relevant rich of the topic that I wanted ads displayed for. I collected a good amount of text, maybe 500-600 words of it. I made sure that there was no site addresses, trademarks, or copyright information in the text so nobody would be able to tell where I got it from if they did happen to see it (which is VERY unlikely). I then copied the text to the clipboard and inserted an ALT tag into my image tag on the page in question. Inside the ALT tag I pasted the entire contents of the clipboard and then just closed the ALT attribute with an ending double-quote. Then I uploaded my new page to the web and waited about 20 minutes.

Bingo! Relevant ads, just like that. Now from what I can gather, this is not against the Terms of Service of Googles AdSense program AS LONG AS the ads that you are forcing are relevant to the main content of your site. There is nothing wrong to force auto -parts ads if you run a commercial auto-parts website. It is just better business thats all.

The good part is that the ALT tag will usually only display itself if the user rolls their mouse over the image and keeps it there, and being that the image is only 1 square pixel it makes it REALLY difficult to do that. This has worked for me about 80% of the time, so give it a try.

In the e-business world time is not the only thing worth money, space is as well. Good luck with your endeavors and be sure to check out my new blog http://designfordummies.blogspot.com where I will be posting more neat tricks to help expand your wallet =).
